On Sunday 15th May, children from Year 3 to 6 at LJS joined a total of 877 school children to take part in the first Flight Centre Schools Triathlon hosted by Oundle School. The children swam, cycled and ran to jointly raise an incredible £3,384.38 (which is being doubled by the UK Government) for Restless Development to support young women and girls to access education in Sierra Leone and around the world. In addition to this, a further £724.58 will be split equally between this year’s four chosen House charities:
Sense (Gloucester)
Oundle Community First Responders (Lilford)
Oundle Mencap Holidays (Burghley)
Wood Green, The Animal Charity (Whitmore)
Despite the forecast looking rather gloomy, the sun made an appearance as the children arrived, got labelled up and stored their bikes before heading to Oundle School Sports Centre for the swim leg. They all worked together brilliantly in their teams and were cheered on by their wonderfully supportive families as they progressed to the bike leg and then finally the run. A number of LJS staff joined pupil and staff volunteers from Oundle School to help direct families, help children onto bikes, direct traffic and generally be a welcoming face and helping hand. This was a truly community centred day, with support from local businesses and over 2,000 attendees coming together for the feel-good event.
