Year Six Visit to Duxford and Madingley

During November children in Year Six at Laxton Junior School visited the Imperial War Museum at Duxford and the American War Museum at Madingley. The airplane hangars house many displays, historical artefacts, aircraft and photographs that document World War Two. Whilst exploring the various displays the children learned how the war effected everyday life. Whether sitting under the cockpit of a Wellington Bomber or on board a D-Day Landing vessel allowed time for the children to reflect and imagine how people felt and coped during this difficult era.

The visit supported the children’s learning of History and enabled them to draw from their experience when back in the classroom. Year Six teacher Mr Worthington said, “the pupils had a very insightful experience, benefiting from the fantastic displays on show. It really allows them to gain a fuller insight into what it must have been like to be fighting for your country and the horrors of war”.

One pupil enthused, “I loved looking at the old artefacts. I felt I had really travelled back in time.”
